I bought a colouring book today. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing but I’m pretty happy about it. I was with a friend who wanted to buy one as we had been talking about how doctors are starting to recommend it for stress and she thought it would be a good idea to give it a go.
I wasn’t going to bother at first as I’m already strained for time, but I came across this book you see pictured on the right hand side. I flicked through loads of books before this one, trying to find one my friend might like. There are a few in this series but this one really stood out to me. It reminded me of a character I sketched years ago when I was a child. The character was basically a female, steampunk version of Peter Pan who lived in a mythical world of imagination.
I think about this character often, but she’s pretty chill compared to my other characters who are demanding and fight in my head for their stories to be written. She just chills in my brain, occasionally leaving to sail the oceans or fly through the clouds on the back of a phoenix, but she pops back up in the strangest of place, like a colouring book, for example. I adore this character for her independence and her sense of adventure, for not needing me while the rest of my life falls to pieces.
I ended up buying this colouring book to remind me of this character, her braveness, her independence and her sense of adventure. I look up to her so much and I know she knows she’s not forgotten. In the meantime, let’s see if this colour theory thing works. Maybe if it does work, I’ll be less stressed and able to write and the story of this character will actually be told.
We can only hope, I guess!
